Building communities.

We’re grateful for the lives we’ve been able to serve. Below are a few stories shared from our team of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and their clients.

  • COVID-19 Recovery

“A client had shared they had recovered from COVID-19 and were feeling better. The client was appreciative of the resources they received regarding getting additional food from the food pantry, and being able to receive financial assistance with their rental arrears. Helping individuals during their time of need, has always been fulfilling within itself.”

  • The Last Meal

“My biggest success was being able to get a family food during their quarantine. They expressed they were down to their last meal, but through the help of InstaCart and the Loaves and Fishes program they did not go without!”

  • Rental Assistance

“I called a Client in need of rent assistance, transportation and answers about disability. He was 75 years young and didn't have an email address. I asked if he could receive text messages, and he responded, ‘yes.’ He confirmed with me that he received SSI/Medicare, had no transportation and needed answers about disability. I texted him available agencies to assist him with rent, referred him to voucher/passes for transportation that he didn't know existed through SSI/Medicare and shared the procedures how to apply for disability. He was indeed a happy camper.”

  • Rent & Utility Support

“I had a client that was in the care of a home health aide. He was unable to pay his rent and his utility bill. The client was unable to provide the information that I needed to find resources that met his need, so I asked for authorization to work with him with his home health aid present. The aide and I discussed his rental and utility needs. We discovered that he did not need help with his rent necessarily, but that there was an error processing his payment with the agency that he is receiving payment assistance from. I then found a resource in Cabarrus county that checked all the boxes, and he qualified for immediate assistance to pay for his utility bill entirely.”

  • Message from a Client

“About six weeks ago, I was in Florida feeling hopeless and didn’t know where to turn. Homeless, penniless, I called my sponsor (I am a recovering addict and I’ve been clean 11 1/2 years). Since Covid, housing has been hard. I’ve lived with a number of people and I was very tired. All I wanted was my own place. I was willing to do the footwork. My sponsor called someone that she knew in North Carolina and the person that she called said she knew someone who could possible help me so she gave me Ms. April’s (CHW) number. I called and left a message. She returned my call and I told her my story. Ms. April began to tell me things to do. Everything that she told me to do, I did. She gave me a sense of direction. I followed through with prayer guiding her and opening doors that needed to be opened and six weeks later, I was in housing. I now have my own apartment. Ms. April was a Godsend. I was lost and didn’t know what to do.”

  • COVID Quarantine

“I recently spoke with a client that had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and in quarantine a few weeks ago. Although the call was in reference to a utility referral, I wanted to know how she was feeling. She was overwhelmed with joy and relief, that she was feeling so much better, after being really sick.

She shared how she was so afraid of getting the COVID vaccination, for over two years. Fear no more, not only did she get her first COVID vaccination shot last week, her entire family got their shots as well.

The fact that she was feeling better after getting COVID, received her 1st COVID vaccination and helped others to realize the importance of getting vaccinations.”

  • New Housing & Family Together

“We were canvassing locations to identify areas to provide services off of West Boulevard and came across a daycare. We met a woman who asked what we could help with since she didn’t have housing and her four kids were in different homes because of it.

After connecting her with a Community Health Worker (CHW) in Supportive Services, she ow has housing and all of her kids are together!”

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
